Handicap & Fixtures Secretary
firstly, may I say how much I am once again looking forward to another year as Handicap & Fixture Secretary and ensuring your handicaps are competitive!

The KO Competitions will begin in January as we have a very busy year ahead.

The entry forms for these will be up on the board in November and be taken down on 29th December so please put your names up as soon as possible. Only those with a current handicap may enter. Once the draw has been made please contact your opponent sooner rather than later to arrange a playing date or dates as matches must be complete by the cut off dates posted, this will allow time to re-arrange if the weather or other unforeseen events cause you to have to postpone.

Lastly and most importantly please make sure you fill in your scorecard correctly, entering both yours and the markers name on the card, putting the score in the correct column and ensuring it is legible. At the end of the round take a few minutes to check your card is correct before signing it, failure to do so could cost you dearly. It would be helpful in both Stableford and Stroke competitions if you could all make an attempt to add up your score, there is no penalty for getting this wrong as long as you have the correct score in the box, so please have a go it really isn’t that difficult.

I wish you all a successful golfing year and remember to enjoy your golf, 3 out of a bunker or 4 putts isn’t the end of the world, although it may feel like it at the time!

Please read the following:
CONGU rule 7.3 requires all players who take a card out in a handicap qualifying competition must be returned including incomplete cards....4 cards were not returned after the July Medal and this will have an impact on the standard scratch of that competition effecting the standard scratch and players handicaps accordingly

Members - please remember that in order to maintain your handicap you are required to submit a minimum of 3 Competition Cards per calendar year. Members without a current handicap are not permitted to play in club matches, those playing in club competitions will be required to play off a handicap of 0, meaning you will not receive any strokes.

New Members - would all new members please provide me with evidence of their handicap or submit 3 qualifying cards in order to attain a handicap asap please.

All -Please ensure that your cards are completed correctly and signed, I have already had to check the Markers card on 3 occasions already in order to verify the score entered on the Players card, as it was not legible. I have also received cards for Stableford competitions where the score has been added but the points not added or totalled. Don’t worry if you make a mistake on the points, as it will not render your card invalid but it is something you should all be capable of doing.

It is your responsibility to ensure your card is correct so please just take a few minutes at the end of your round to ensure it is completed correctly and legible. Failure to do so may result in your being disqualified, which would be most unfortunate, so please make sure you do this before posting it.

Regards,
Barry.
